Penny Jones

Mortgage Adviser

I was born in Somerset but spent most of my childhood in East Devon. Since then, I have lived in Bristol, London, a stint in the USA, several years in Cardiff before relocating back to sunny Devon where I now live with my husband, son and daughter (& 2 cats!).

I qualified as a mortgage adviser in 2004 following a number of years working in hospitality – originally gaining my degree in Hospitality Management at University Wales Institute Cardiff in 2001. I spent the first 10 years of my mortgage advice journey working for large corporate groups and worked my way up to area management and leading my own team before setting up Penny Jones Mortgages in January 2014. I wanted to be able to focus on the quality of service and a more holistic approach in which my clients are the centre of my business.

These days my focus outside of work is on spending quality time with my family – hence I don’t work weekends as this is sacred time with my kiddies. We love the great outdoors particularly anything water based. I feel blessed and privileged to live in such a beautiful part of the country. I also enjoy keeping fit by running & kickboxing.

Prior to having a family, my greatest passion was travelling and experiencing different cultures. My favourite places that I have been privileged to visit are Peru, South Africa and New Zealand. I have been lucky enough to do the Inca trail, abseil down Table Mountain and even Ostrich Riding (something that was both terrifying and hysterical in equal measure!).

In my younger years I enjoyed some adrenaline sports and I have sky dived, bungee jumped, bungee catapult, abseiled, and white-water rafting. I also have my PADI qualification for Scuba Diving and a basic level qualification for windsurfing – these days I am more likely to be hiking on Dartmoor & I have recently taken up archery with my son.

I was born and grew up in East Devon with Penny who is my older sister. Since then, I lived in South Wales where I studied Sound Engineering before relocating back to sunny Devon where I now live with my girlfriend & our 2 cats!

I joined Penny at Penny Jones Mortgages in 2017 as a temporary measure but enjoyed helping out so much… and as they say the rest is history. I still only work part time but I do take care of all the technical aspects of the business as well as providing crucial solicitor updates for our clients during the post mortgage offer stage, something not normally associated with financial advisers.

Away from Penny Jones Mortgages, I am also a qualified plumber and a keen car enthusiast with my own workshop where I work on my own vehicles. I also love DIY and look after my own property as well as my parents. I also enjoy gaming with old friends and love technology! All the desktop computers at Penny Jones Mortgages are built and serviced by me. I love to travel when time and funds allow and I am currently on a diet/ fitness crusade.

Not only did she secure me a great mortgage deal, but she was also incredibly supportive whenever I had questions or uncertainties. She was always available, quick to respond, and genuinely reassuring throughout.

A special mention as well to her colleague Stuart, who supported with all the documents and chasing. Stuart was equally fantastic and a pleasure to work with.

Her and her team have been an absolute brilliant help in securing our first property we thought we’d be waiting years!!!  2/3 weeks later after our first phone call I had a mortgage in principle and was buying our dream home. My partner and I were buying our first property together and the whole process was smooth and well explained (as it can be very daunting at first) and it was nice to have someone on your side who you can ask questions to and not feel silly! We spent many years in rented accommodation, trying (and struggling) to save for a deposit. We were recommended Penny by a number of people and decided to reach out, assuming we would need to save more towards a deposit but we wanted a clear idea of our next steps. 

Instead Penny instantly went to work and found us a mortgage. Our first meeting was in May, and this week (mid September) we have moved into our first home!
